PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Slater, Wright Back This Week
Tackle Jackie Slater and defensive tackle Alvin Wright, both of whom missed three games because of right shoulder injuries, will play Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. The Rams are looking to both veterans to help shore up areas of concern, but Wright’s return could be more significant.
“If Al can return to the level he’s played, it’s big,” Coach John Robinson said. “It’s an area where we only had a couple of guys and then we lost both. So we’ve been making do in the middle of the defensive line ever since.
“If he can come back and be the solid force that he has been, that’s a big plus for us.”
Add injuries: Linebacker Fred Strickland, who played on a limited basis against the Green Bay Packers, will start Sunday. Defensive tackle Mike Piel, who missed two games after suffering a shoulder injury against the Saints, probably won’t suit up. Receiver Flipper Anderson, who has not practiced since injuring his lower back against the 49ers; guard Bern Brostek (ankle), and linebacker Brett Faryniarz (left knee) will not play. Defensive tackle Bill Hawkins, who has been on injured reserve because of bruised ribs, is expected to be activated Friday.
