Weidenbach Enters Barrios 10K Race
Lisa Weidenbach, who has been ranked among the top three American marathoners for the past three years, will compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational, a 10-kilometer race along the Chula Vista Harbor scheduled for Oct. 20.
Weidenbach enters with a best 10K time of 31:34 and a best in the marathon of 2:28:15.
She will compete for a share of the $20,000 purse with such runners as New Zealand’s Dianne Brewer and Bonita’s Jeanne Johnson, who recently was an upset winner in the Trib 10.
SOCCER
San Diego State got goals from five different players in a 5-0 home victory over Cal Baptist.
SDSU scores came from: Nicole Roche, Merris Welch, Jaynia Sibold, Ronne Pietila and Amy Ward.
UC San Diego scored with six minutes remaining to narrow The Master’s lead to one goal, but could not come up with the equalizer as The Master’s hung on for a 3-2 victory at UCSD.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UC Riverside used a balanced attack to beat UC San Diego, 15-9, 15-13, 16-14.
Riverside (12-5) had six players with at least five kills and no one with more than nine. UCSD (14-5) was led by Elizabeth Tan’s seven kills.
