Intel Files Copyright Lawsuit: Intel Corp. said it had filed a new copyright infringement lawsuit against Advanced Micro Devices over the 386 microprocessor. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Austin, Tex., where AMD produces its microprocessors, alleges that AMD illegally copied Intel’s microcode, the tiny instructions written into computer chips. AMD contends that it has the right to use Intel’s microcode. The issue is also being fought out in a lawsuit in California involving a different product. In the Texas suit, Intel alleges that AMD copied a control program that regulates chip functions.
