Poll Finds 59% in Support of School ‘Choice’ System
About 59% of California voters would support a “choice” system in education even if students could use tax-funded vouchers to attend private and religious schools, according to a poll commissioned by a Los Angeles think tank that advocates the dramatic change.
The Reason Foundation’s poll of 800 registered voters released Thursday also found that nearly 51% would vote for such a voucher system even after being informed that many public school educators strongly oppose it.
Joseph F. Alibrandi, a Los Angeles businessman who heads a group working toward a November ballot initiative for a choice system, said the poll “gives us reason to take heart.”
