NCAA Asks Tapes Be Kept From Public
The NCAA asked former Auburn football player Eric Ramsey’s attorney not to make public secretly recorded tapes that Ramsey claims will prove his allegations of wrongdoing at the university.
NCAA enforcement director Richard R. Hilliard, in a letter sent to Birmingham, Ala., lawyer Donald Watkins, said that allowing the public to hear the tapes could damage the agency’s ability to investigate the claims made by Ramsey.
Watkins said he does not see any harm in releasing the contents of most of Ramsey’s 22 tapes of nearly 100 conversations with boosters and coaches.
Watkins claims that the tapes show Ramsey received money to buy a car, monthly payments of $300 and a bonus for interceptions.
