Foundation Honors 8 Authors
The Lannan Foundation has given its 1991 Lannan Literary Grants to eight authors, each of whom will receive a $35,000 award or fellowship.
The awards went to William Bronk for poetry, Alexander Theroux for fiction and Christopher Hitchens for nonfiction. Recipients of fellowships are Chrystos, Herbert Morris and Pattiann Rogers in poetry and Sandra Cisneros and John Edgar Wideman in fiction.
The Los Angeles-based foundation established its literary awards program in 1987 to stimulate the creation of high-quality, English-language literature. The foundation founder, the late financier J. Patrick Lannan, was a benefactor of Poetry magazine and longtime chairman of the board of the Modern Poetry Assn.
