Defending Christo
Regarding “Christo’s Latest Eye-Opener” (Oct. 6): So Tom Hoving doesn’t think it is “serious art, (or) important art.”
Christo doesn’t kowtow to the New York Art Establishment. He is one of the only true artists left. He pursues his own vision, not grants or endorsements. One can be certain that a century from now, art historians will regret they did not live at a time when they could see the works of Christo. Few will regret they did not have a chance to meet Thomas Hoving.
Not to disparage art curators in general--who do fine work--but of Hoving and Christo it can certainly be said: “Those who can, create--those who can’t, curate.”
