City Asks Fishermen to Pipe Down
Responding to noise complaints from residents, the Redondo Beach City Council decided this week to call upon fishing boat operators to stop using their loudspeakers in King Harbor.
The council took no action Tuesday on an ordinance that would have banned the speakers within the harbor, deciding instead to urge voluntary compliance.
Residents along the water have complained that fishing vessels leaving the harbor use their loudspeakers early in the morning to tell their crews about fishing conditions or safety warnings. It is unnecessary to make such announcements so close to the beachfront condominiums, residents argue.
