Armed with cats, traps and poisons, Bangladesh launched a two-week extermination campaign Wednesday against rats, branding them public enemy No. 1. The government will give 14 cents for every rattail a person produces.

Officials say the amount of grain that rats devour every year could feed 3 million people in this South Asian nation, one of the world’s poorest.
