In another Golden League opener:
Antelope Valley 37, Palmdale 7--Antelope Valley received two touchdowns from its special teams and one from its defense at Palmdale. Antelope Valley lineman John Burgener scooped up a punt blocked by teammate Chris Walters 52 seconds into the game and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown.
Antelope Valley used a running game featuring Freddie Edwards to amass a 17-7 halftime lead. Edwards, who didn’t play in the second half, rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown in 12 carries.
The Antelopes broke the game open on the first play of the second half, when Rodney Flakes returned the third-quarter kickoff 85 yards for the score. Antelope Valley sealed the win when defensive lineman Carl Taylor returned a fumble recovery 16 yards for a touchdown.
Palmdale quarterback Terrence Zenno completed 24 of 48 attempts for 261 yards.
