Delta, Air Force Reaches Agreement: After successfully wrangling in bankruptcy court to buy most of Pan American World Airways, Delta Air Lines has cut a deal to satisfy one widely overlooked creditor--the Air Force. After the Air Force spent $561 million getting the jets ready, Pan Am’s precarious financial condition worsened, and some of the planes were repossessed by their original owners. Delta and the Pentagon reached an agreement in principle through which Delta will pay the Air Force $5 million and provide $20 million in credits for future plane use. Delta will also commit 42 long-range planes to the Air Force when and if needed.
