Glassell Park : Man to Stand Trial in Killing
A Glassell Park man has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he shot and killed his neighbor, Eustaquio Medrano, 49, who worked as a groundskeeper at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale.
At a preliminary hearing Friday, Los Angeles Municipal Judge Patti Jo McKay found there was sufficient evidence to hold Sergio Celis, 18, to answer to the murder charge. He is being held in County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Arraignment in Superior Court is set for Nov. 1.
Medrano, who was a father to numerous foster children, adopted children and stepchildren, was slain July 31 as he was getting ready for work outside his house in the 3200 block of Carlyle Street.
Police said Celis called Medrano over to talk about job opportunities at Forest Lawn, then shot him.
