Car Strikes Utility Pole, Causes Outage
ANAHEIM — A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Wednesday after his car jumped a curb and uprooted a utility pole, causing a temporary power failure, police said.
Jack Dionisio Montoya of Anaheim was listed in serious condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange. He was later arrested at the hospital in connection with the 7:30 p.m. crash, Anaheim Police Officer Joe Karns said.
Officer Scott Maddy was on patrol when he noticed a bright flash across the sky in the area of Broadway and Hessell Street, Karns said.
Arriving at the scene, Maddy found a car on the side of the street with a power pole stuck through the vehicle, Karns said. Maddy found Montoya unconscious under the dashboard, he added.
