San Diego
A 19-year-old Downey woman was killed when the car in which she was a passenger went out of control in heavy rain and was struck by another vehicle that sped from the scene, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The hit-and-run crash occurred about 10 p.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 805 as it crosses Interstate 8 in Mission Valley, authorities said.
A CHP spokesman said Sunday that a car containing three women went out of control in the rain, struck a guardrail and was then hit broadside by a motorist from behind who fled without stopping.
The hit-and-run suspect was driving a black, 1988 Pontiac, the CHP said.
The victim was identified by the San Diego County medical examiner’s office as Heidi Doolin, who was in the rear seat of the car. The other two occupants were hospitalized with moderate injuries, the CHP said.
