FULLERTON : School Gets Partner for Science, Math
Parks Junior High School and Hughes Ground Systems Group have formed a partnership in which the company’s employees will work with teachers and students to increase interest in science and mathematics.
The partnership, to be made official at a ceremony on Nov. 5, was formed after an event last spring in which Hughes President Scott Walker served as Parks principal for a day.
As part of the agreement, students will see demonstrations of high-tech equipment and real-world models that apply to math and science lesson plans. The employees will also provide after-school tutoring and promote involvement in math and science clubs.
In addition, Hughes will send guest speakers to the school and offer tours of the company’s Fullerton facility. The company also will help teachers incorporate the latest science and technology into their lesson plans.
The company also plans to help create a portable mathematics lab, hold a math and science fair and involve parents in education.
