Nearly Half to Spend Less at Christmas: Nearly half the nation’s consumers plan to reduce their holiday spending this year, the highest percentage in seven years, according to an ABC News/Money Magazine poll. Forty-seven percent of the 518 people questioned said they plan to spend less on Christmas gifts, up from 38% last year and 32% in 1989. The finding points to a holiday spending season as bad as last year’s bust or worse, the pollsters said.
