Finding the Leak in Senate Hearings
I read with dismay of the witch hunt for whoever “leaked” information (Oct. 25) about the Anita Hill statement (on sexual harassment during the Clarence Thomas hearings). I think that person deserves not calumny but a vote of thanks, regardless of whether the “leak” was politically motivated.
It is the Senate Judiciary Committee that deserves shame, shame for keeping items of importance from the American people. There should be no congressional secrets from the citizens of the United States.
Congress is an agency of the people. An agency that keeps secrets from its principals is derelict in its duty--and this is indeed so with respect to a nominee to the highest court. Thomas’ decisions could affect 250 million people.
The American public has a right to know.
