Four North County residents were among six men indicted by a federal grand jury in San Diego with conspiracy to transport and harbor illegal immigrants, the U.S. attorney’s office said in a press release.

The suspects indicted Thursday were identified as Alfredo Perez-Montes de Oca of Carlsbad, his brother Evaristo Perez-Montes de Oca of Oceanside, Fortinio Zmorando-Huitron of Oceanside, Ignacio Richarez-Galan of Carlsbad, Jorge Luis Magana-Mondragon of Los Angeles and Enrique Sanchez-Lopez of Mexico. They are being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, the release said.

The six are accused of operating a sophisticated smuggling ring in which illegal immigrants were taken to Los Angeles, using a North County home as a temporary haven, the release said. The defendants allegedly charged would-be immigrants about $300 each for their services.
