Police homicide detectives put out a plea for assistance from the public in finding the missing parts from a child’s bicycle frame recovered last week in Lakeside. The recovered frame is similar to one on a bicycle owned by Amanda Gaeke.

Nine-year-old Amanda disappeared last month, and her body was discovered 11 days later in a North Park canyon, near her home. The girl was riding a multicolored bicycle when she disappeared, and the bicycle has not been recovered.

Last Saturday, a frame matching the one from Amanda’s bicycle was found near El Monte Park. However, police said they are not sure if the recovered frame came from Amanda’s bicycle.

However, investigators believe that whoever discarded the frame made a deliberate attempt to hide it in brush, several hundred feet off a road leading to the park. Homicide Lt. Paul Ybarrondo said Thursday that investigators would like to recover the missing parts in order to determine if the bicycle belonged to Amanda.
