Richard Joy; TV, Radio Announcer
Richard Joy, a radio and television announcer known to audiences over four decades as Dick Joy, died Thursday at his home in Talent, Ore. He was 75.
After majoring in journalism at USC, he became the longtime commercial voice for “Dr. Kildare,” “The Danny Kaye Show” and “The Telephone Hour” on radio. He also worked in the early days of TV on such celebrated programs as “Playhouse 90.”
He was featured on several other radio series including “The Adventures of Sam Spade,” “Silver Theater” and “Blue Ribbon Town,” a variety series starring Groucho Marx.
Locally, he worked on radio stations KNX and KFAC and TV stations KTTV and KNXT before retiring in 1969.
Survivors include his wife, Cecelia, two daughters and three grandchildren.
