Limited Strike at Caterpillar Begins: Union workers went on a limited strike against Caterpillar Inc. in what analysts said was an attempt to inflict the highest pain on the world’s largest manufacturer of earthmoving equipment at the smallest cost to its membership. About 2,000 United Auto Workers union employees left their jobs at Caterpillar’s Decatur, Ill., plant, which produces off-road trucks, motor graders and other equipment, and 400 struck its facility in East Peoria, Ill., which builds large truck tractors.
