Fujitsu Ends Talks on Computer Gift

Opposition from U.S. officials has prompted Fujitsu Ltd. to drop out of negotiations to donate a $17-million supercomputer to a consortium of international scientists, a spokesman for the Japanese company said Monday.
The computer would have been used in a Colorado laboratory.
The incident is the latest in a controversy over how far the U.S. government should go to protect the interests of the country’s supercomputer industry.
