Fullerton Expects Another Long Night
SAN JOSE — San Jose State, undefeated in five Big West Conference play, is expected to deal Cal State Fullerton another lopsided loss tonight at Spartan Stadium.
The Spartans, 5-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference, may be without starting quarterback Matt Veatch, who sat out last week’s game against Nevada Las Vegas because of a knee injury, but there is not much drop-off to backup Jeff Garcia.
In his major college debut last week, Garcia completed 22 of 33 passes for 337 yards and five touchdowns to lead San Jose State to a 55-12 victory over UNLV. Garcia shared the honor of conference offensive player of the week with Pacific’s Troy Kopp.
“It won’t matter who plays quarterback,” CS Fullerton Coach Gene Murphy said. “It’s not going to be easy either way.”
The Titans (1-7, 0-4) have been outscored, 267-87, this season and have not defeated a Division I-A opponent in 18 games. The Spartans rolled up 670 total yards, including 500 passing, en route to a 44-6 victory over the Titans last season.
