Commission Rewards Anti-Drug Activist

Reed Berry of San Gabriel will receive the Citizen Activist Commendation from the National Commission Against Drunk Driving. He is being recognized as the developer and program director of a school assembly program that uses professional entertainers and comedy to deliver an anti-drug message to students from elementary to college levels.

Six business people from Baldwin Park and La Puente were honored during Entrepreneurial Spirit Minority Enterprise Development Week.

Restaurateurs Manny Fernandez, C. Fernandez and Salvador Sanchez and auto body shop owner Roberto Salazar, all of Baldwin Park, were cited.

Shop owners Deepak Jani and Frank Sanchez from La Puente were named in a list released by Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D-Baldwin Park.)

Josephine Kohler, founding administrator of Queen of the Valley Hospital, West Covina, received the 1991 Laband Award for support and dedication to the hospital and the San Gabriel Valley community.

Nancy Andrews has been named executive director of Escalon Inc. in Altadena, a school for emotionally disturbed children.

John Aydelotte of the City of Industry won first place for the best commercial photograph in the state, as judged by the Professional Photographers of California.

Lew Wagman of Arcadia was recently appointed president of the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center Foundation.

Edna Lane received the Auxilian of the Year Award from the Auxiliary of Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina.

John Wong, a San Marino psychiatrist, will become medical director of the Mental Health Center at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.

Brenda Chemleski of San Gabriel was named “Nurse of the Year” by the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California.

Cathy Brooke of Pasadena has been appointed director of financial development for the West San Gabriel Valley chapter of the American Red Cross.

“Gone With the Wind on Film: A Complete Reference,” by Cynthia M. Molt of Monrovia, recently was released in Great Britain.

The reference work was published last year by McFarland & Co. Molt, a graduate of Monrovia High School and Cal State Long Beach, is a writer and lecturer on film history.

Michael F. Eng was honored by the Asian Pacific American Legal Center for providing free legal services to Asian Pacific and Central American residents seeking to become U.S. citizens. The Monterey Park lawyer has also produced a videotape on passing the citizenship test.
