Random House Ordered to Redesign Dictionary: A federal judge ordered Random House to redesign the dust jacket of its Webster’s College Dictionary to eliminate similarities with a rival publication. Merriam-Webster, publisher of Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, said the judge Friday ordered Random House to modify the dictionary’s type size, order of words and typeface. Both dictionaries had red covers and the word Webster’s in white along the spine. A federal jury last month ordered Random House to pay more than $2 million for copying the dust jacket.
