West Covina : Water Project Loan Sought

The city will apply for a $5-million loan to install a system to import reclaimed water for irrigating parks and other open spaces.

The state Water Resources Control Board offers a maximum of $5 million in low-interest loans for such reclaimed water projects.

The City Council on Monday adopted a resolution approving the request for a 20-year loan.

The estimated cost of the city’s project is $6.6 million, if completed by late 1993. The city would have to fund $1.6 million of the project, possibly with a tax-exempt revenue bond, City Engineer Harry W. Thomas said.

Pipes will be installed near Temple and Azusa avenues, Amar Road and Shadow Oak Drive and in open spaces north of the BKK landfill.

A reservoir and a pumping station will be placed on the landfill, which will receive two-thirds of the water. Water will be transported through the City of Industry, which has pipelines connected to the county-operated San Jose Creek Water Reclamation Plant.
