In other first-round Southern Section matches:
Royal d. Newport Harbor, 10-15, 15-12, 9-15, 15-13, 15-11--Stacy Kaufmann had 31 kills and Jennifer Hamilton added 26 as Royal (18-3) hung on in a 5-A Division match that lasted 2 hours 50 minutes.
Jill Enright had a school-record seven service aces and setter Tracey Tahy had a school-record 63 assists.
Corona del Mar d. Thousand Oaks, 15-4, 15-5, 15-8--Corona del Mar had little trouble with the visiting Lancers (12-6) in a 5-A match.
St. Joseph d. Newbury Park, 15-10, 15-11, 15-7--Jennifer Cameron had 13 kills and Erika Freiman added seven, but Newbury Park (11-7) fell in a 5-A match. St. Joseph is 16-0.
Mater Dei d. Ventura, 12-15, 15-8, 10-15, 15-12, 15-8--Ventura (12-3) blew a 2-1 lead in games and Mater Dei advanced to the second round of the 5-A playoffs.
Bell Gardens d. Antelope Valley, 11-15, 15-9, 15-12, 16-14--Ninth-seeded Bell Gardens (15-1) came from behind in a 3-A match. Antelope Valley finished 14-3.
Nordhoff d. Oak Park, 14-16, 15-6, 15-3, 15-2--Kortney Rogers had 12 kills and three service aces and Alison Nofrey had 11 kills and four blocks to lead Nordhoff (13-1) in a 2-A match.
Moorpark d. Santa Paula, 15-1, 15-2, 15-10--Nicole Funfar had 12 kills and Tara Thomas added 16 assists for host Moorpark (17-0) in a 2-A match.
La Reina d. Pius X, 15-4, 15-6, 15-9--Amy Crotty had nine kills and Amy Gusick added seven for La Reina (13-3) in a 2-A match. Tara Deukmedjian had five services aces and three kills.
Glenn d. Calabasas, 15-9, 15-5, 15-17, 15-6--Kristi Thompson had 13 kills for host Calabasas (9-7) in a 2-A match.
L.A. Lutheran d. Valley Christian, 2-15, 10-15, 15-9, 15-12, 15-4--Jennifer Haas had nine kills for L.A. Lutheran (14-3) in a Small Schools match at Valley Christian.
