Moorpark Seeks Expansion Views

Moorpark planning officials said they hope for a big turnout Monday for a hearing on whether the city should more than double its size.

The 7 p.m. City Hall hearing is the last scheduled Planning Commission meeting on a proposal to increase the city’s area from 12.3 square miles to 30.7 square miles, officials said.

Officials were disappointed by the small turnout of residents at a Nov. 4 public hearing on the expansion, said Patrick J. Richards, director of community development.

Only a few residents took the microphone at the hearing, which was dominated by comments from developers.

The proposed expansion could lead to a substantial increase in Moorpark’s population. About 5,500 houses would be built on land that would be added to the city under proposals by various developers.

Monday’s hearing will also consider zoning changes that would allow about 2,000 additional residences to be built within existing city limits.
