Yeas, Nays Speak Out on Measure A Rent Control Plan
What I find really difficult to believe is that the people who want to develop that mobile home park in Treasure Island are saying that Measure A will cost the city money to defend lawsuits that they, the developers, will start. Are they on Laguna’s side? That argument sounds like the one about the thief warning a homeowner that he will have to break a window unless the front door is left unlocked!
My heavens, listen to what the developers are saying! The ordinance has already been passed by our city’s Planning Commission and City Council, the people we elected. And if the people of Laguna Beach say yes on Measure A on Nov. 19, the developers say they will still sue. Does that tell you something about their goals?
And what if they get their way this time? What happens when the people of Treasure Island have been evicted? That’s right. The developers threaten another lawsuit unless the zoning is changed to high-rise condo, or hotel, or perhaps Disneyland-South. Hardly Lagunan.
I, for one, am voting yes on Measure A. I love Laguna for what it is, not what it isn’t. And I’ll not have my city run from the park owner’s offices in New York.
