A 24-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident after a man suspected of a parole violation led U.S. deputy marshals on a high-speed chase through Normal Heights, authorities reported Tuesday.

Mark N. Kelso, 24, of San Diego, was a passenger in a pickup driven by the suspect when the truck collided with a car at Adams Avenue and 35th Street late Monday, San Diego police said. Kelso was thrown from the cab as the truck flipped. The truck then rolled over Kelso, crushing him, said Chuck Bolton, an investigator for the medical examiner. Kelso was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Kevin Otto, 25, also of San Diego, was on federal parole for manufacturing a controlled substance, police said. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was arrested at the scene.
