A 20-year-old Clairemont man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the stabbing death of an elderly man last week.
Matthew Wayne Thompson of the 6200 block of Mt. Aguilar Drive was arrested in his home about 7 p.m. Tuesday by San Diego Police homicide detectives, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Detectives allege Thompson stabbed Marian J. Newkirk, 70, many times on Nov. 13 and then used his identification and credit cards. Robinson said Thompson and Newkirk live on the same street.
Police discovered Newkirk’s body in his bedroom after a neighbor called and requested that they check on the man, who lived alone, Robinson said.
Thompson is being held without bail in County Jail on suspicion of murder.
