Poor Benefit Turnout Leaves Organizers in Red
Organizers of a benefit for the Orange County chapters of the Sickle Cell Anemia and the United Cerebral Palsy Foundations were left in the red because of a poor turnout for a concert by Marvelettes founder Gladys Horton and a Motown memorabilia exhibit.
About 50 people attended Saturday’s concert and exhibit at the Westminster Cultural Arts Center, and Sunday’s performance was canceled because of poor attendance, said Rosey Tague, co-director of Strathleven Scottish Dancers. Tague, event promoter, said she lost between $2,500 and $3,000 and will avoid similar fund-raisers in the future because of the loss.
