Medal Honors Pearl Harbor Survivors
Congress has authorized a 50th anniversary commemorative medal for Pearl Harbor survivors. This decoration is authorized only for individuals who were in the military and at Pearl Harbor on the day of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack. Widows are eligible to receive the award for their husbands.
About 600 people, most of them members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn., will be awarded this special medal Saturday and Sunday at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado. Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham will award the decorations on Saturday, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The ceremony will be repeated on Sunday, also between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., when the mayor of Coronado is expected to do the honors.
The medals will be awarded at the base theater. The base is on the Silver Strand, south of the Hotel del Coronado.
Call base PAO Bill Bartkus, 437-3024, for more information.
