RTD Programs to Boost Service Win Top Awards

Two programs developed by the Southern California Rapid Transit District to improve customer service, driver courtesy and on-time performance have won national “best of the best” awards of excellence from a private nonprofit industry group.

The Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business of Alexandria, Va., honored the Los Angeles transit agency’s Transit Rider Bill of Rights and 15-Minute On-Time Warranty as the best programs among companies with annual sales or revenue of $50 million to $399 million.

The bill of rights calls for safe, courteous, convenient and reliable transit, accessible to all, with timely, accurate information and quality service. The on-time warranty provides that patrons ride free if a bus is 15 minutes late or more. Both programs were introduced in 1990 by former RTD Board President Nick Patsaouras.
