GARDEN GROVE : Firefighters Honor Residents for Aid

Residents of the Acacia Villa Senior Apartments were honored this week by the Fire Department for their continuing support of the city’s paramedic fund.

Fire Chief Lon Cahill presented residents with a plaque for their work, which has resulted in donations of more than $4,400 to the fund since 1988.

In September, the residents presented $1,220 to the Fire Department. The money was raised through bake sales, rummage sales and a “fill-the-bottle” campaign in which residents and visitors deposited money in a water cooler bottle.

The donations are used for equipment to aid Fire Department paramedics in emergency medical operations, which account for about 62% of the department’s total emergency activity.

Over the years, donations to the paramedic fund have enabled the purchase of resuscitators, CPR training equipment and special extrication devices.
