Bradbury : City Joins Coalition

After being assured that its commitment would be limited, the council voted unanimously last week to join the new San Gabriel Valley Transportation Coalition, which is trying to get more transportation funds for the area.

Mayor John H. Richards questioned whether the commitment would become a “bottomless pit” demanding large contributions.

The city’s initial six-month membership fee will be less than $45, based on its population of about 900, to be assessed at 5 cents per person.

“Transportation issues are coming up fast and furious,” said Councilwoman Beatrice LaPisto-Kirtley, who has been involved in the coalition’s formation. She added, “We are being dominated by the Westside” in attention and in consideration for funding.

The coalition, which represents more than 25 cities, is using the money to pay for a consultant’s study documenting the valley’s transportation needs.
