MISSION VIEJO : High School Gym to Be Dedicated
Members of the City Council and trustees of the Capistrano Unified School District will preside over a dedication ceremony today celebrating the completion of a new gymnasium at Capistrano Valley High School.
The 2,000-seat gymnasium, which district officials describe as a “premier athletic facility,” is a joint venture between the city and the school district, made possible through a special redevelopment agreement.
“Our students, coaches and parents are thrilled with the new gymnasium,” Principal Jessica Leadley said. “We look forward to many successful athletic events for Capistrano Valley High School in this new building.”
The gymnasium will provide a home court for girls and boys indoor athletic events. In the past, students had to play basketball games off campus.
The gymnasium can accommodate more than one athletic event at a time and features expanded seating capacity with motorized bleachers, a foyer with trophy cases, a ticket booth, coaching offices and restrooms.
“The first gymnasium of the Capistrano Unified School District, and the first home of the Cougars, was in historic San Juan Capistrano,” Mayor Kenneth E. Friess said. “We now have the chance to dedicate a new facility where the spirit of the Capistrano Valley High School Cougars can live on and where future generations of student athletes can make their own history.”
