15 Injured as Car, RTD Bus Collide
Fifteen people were injured, one critically, when a speeding car ran a stop sign and collided with an RTD bus late Monday near Harbor College in Wilmington, Los Angeles police said.
Witnesses told police an unidentified motorist drove through a stop sign at Figueroa Place and L Street and struck with the Southern California Rapid Transit District bus, which was carrying passengers to the Blue Line in Long Beach. Several witnesses said the car appeared to be speeding at the time of the 4:30 p.m. accident, according to Police Lt. Gary Stromlund.
The auto’s driver was trapped in the wreckage for about 15 minutes before firefighters used to the Jaws of Life to free him. He was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, where he was reported in critical condition.
