UNC Charlotte Starts Fast and Rolls Over Long Beach

Sophomore James Terrell scored 21 points Monday to lead North Carolina Charlotte to a 72-49 victory over Cal State Long Beach.

Terrell hit four of six shots from three-point range, and Charlotte (1-1) outrebounded Long Beach, 50-33. Charlotte scored the first eight points of the game and was never threatened.

Both teams are nicknamed the 49ers.

Henry Williams scored 17 points and sophomore forward Jarvis Lang added 16 points with 12 rebounds for Charlotte.

Chris Tower led Long Beach (1-1) with 12 points and five rebounds. Byron Russell added 11 points.

Tower’s two free throws pulled Long Beach within 33-26 with two minutes left in the half. But Charlotte scored the last four points of the half and maintained a double-figure advantage throughout the final 20 minutes. Terrell scored the last five points to provide the game’s largest margin.

Charlotte forced 19 turnovers.
