Broderick Verdict

I have just heard the verdict in the Betty Broderick murder case and I am truly disappointed. It seemed to me and to many others a case of clear premeditated murder by a woman who was so angered because she could no longer retain her marital status and all the material benefits that went along with it, even though she was being provided with a very handsome monthly maintenance.

It is sad that even the murder of Daniel Broderick’s wife, Linda, was not considered by the jurors to be first-degree murder. Since 50% of marriages end in divorce, which is never a pleasant experience for those involved, I shudder at the thought that this verdict will send a message to those parties that murder might be the answer to their problems.

The tragedy that Betty Broderick brought upon her children, her ex-husband’s family and the family of Linda Broderick is something that can never be remedied. I trust the judge will keep this in mind when he sentences her in February.
