COUNTYWIDE : Partly Cloudy Skies, Winds Greet 1992

After the wettest December in five years in Ventura County, partly sunny skies, warmer temperatures and occasional gusty winds greeted the first day of the new year.

Meteorologists for WeatherData Inc. recorded temperatures in the high 60s, slightly higher than normal, throughout the county Wednesday, and wind gusts reached up to 50 m.p.h.

But more clouds and rain are moving in, forecasters said.

Another storm front packing heavy rains is expected to blanket the county tonight or Friday morning.

“I don’t think this storm will fizzle out,” said Mike Smith, president of WeatherData, which is based in Kansas. “There will be rain, but it might not start until Friday.”

Although the storm is expected to let up by Saturday, another storm could hit by Tuesday evening, Smith said.
