Video Rental Chart : ‘City Slickers’ Fends Off ‘Terminator’

Surprisingly, “City Slickers” tops the Billboard magazine rental chart for the second week in a row, resisting the mighty surge of “Terminator 2,” which figured to be No. 1 by now. In its second week on the chart, “Terminator 2” crawled up two rungs to No. 2. The lead of “City Slickers” can’t be much. Some retailers are reporting that “Terminator 2” has been their leading rental since it hit the stores. Another new hit is the romantic comedy “Doc Hollywood,” starring Michael J. Fox and Julie Warner, which entered at No. 11 and is on its way to the Top Five. The big Bruce Willis box-office flop, “Hudson Hawk,” hasn’t really picked up a sizable audience in the rental market. “Hawk” peaked quickly at the bottom of the Top 10 and has been slipping ever since. Another John Candy comedy, “Delirious,” has arrived, debuting at No. 22. “Only the Lonely,” also starring Candy, is No. 12.

* A better subtitle for this “Naked Gun” sequel would be “The Smell of Money.” It pulled in $85 million at the box office and should be one of the top rentals for the next two months. It debuted at No. 9, but look for it to crack the Top Five next week.
