Bill Lewis, who coached East Carolina to an 11-1 record and a 37-34 victory over North Carolina State in the Peach Bowl, was named the American Football Coaches Assn. Division I-A coach of the year. Lewis recently resigned at East Carolina to take the coaching job at Georgia Tech.
