NASA Cuts May Affect Rockwell: Rockwell International Corp. said an announcement of deep cuts in NASA’s space shuttle operation “will have an impact on Rockwell,” but it was uncertain what the effect would be on the company’s Southern California employees. “We’re not in a position to talk . . . or to quantify the situation at the present time,” said William Mellon, a spokesman for Seal Beach-based Rockwell International. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said it will eliminate 5,000 shuttle jobs the next five years as it tries to cut spending by 3% a year.
