WESTMINSTER : $10,000 Grant to Aid School Child Care
The Westminster School District has received a $10,000 state grant to help a fledgling child-care program, district officials announced Thursday at a board meeting.
Beverlee Watson, director of the child-care program at Ada E. Clegg Elementary School in Huntington Beach, said the grant from the state Department of Education will be used to offset the cost of such education materials as books and paints and of other start-up expenses for the program, which opened at the beginning of the school year.
The program provides before- and after-school care for about 40 students from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The grant “helps me keep their tuition costs low,” Watson said, “because I don’t have to pass on the start-up costs. And it (makes) more day care available.”
