Edward Wilson; Former Tournament of Roses President

Edward Wilson, 67, former president of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and a veteran advertising and banking executive. Wilson--a vice president of Foote, Cone & Belding advertising agency in Los Angeles and later a senior vice president of United California Bank--joined the tournament in 1951 and was chairman of various committees over the years. He was a fan of cartoons and cartoonists. When he became tournament president he asked the creator of “Peanuts,” Charles Schulz, to be grand marshal of the 1974 Rose Parade, whose theme was “Happiness Is. . . .” While in advertising he received several awards for his TV commercials and did extensive work in the “Smokey Bear” campaign for the U.S. Forest Service.
