San Dieguito 73, Orange Glen 58--In a fast-paced first half, San Dieguito (9-6, 1-1) scored 21 points in each quarter to build a 42-26 halftime lead. David Demian scored 19 points. John Burns and Brian Morsch each scored 16 for Orange Glen (2-10, 0-2).
Avocado League
San Pasqual 73, Ramona 64--San Pasqual was aided by some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch, where the Eagles were 12 of 17 from the foul line, including Jovan Kirovsky’s six of eight in the fourth quarter.
David Durst (17 points), Ernie Silva (15) and Kirovsky (14) led San Pasqual. Rusty Hoss scored 24 points and had 13 rebounds to pace Ramona (4-6). Teammate Cody Cunningham contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Rancho Bernardo 83, Escondido 65--Rancho Bernardo’s Bill McMahon and David Santos stole the show with 31 and 22 points, respectively, for the Broncos (9-4, 2-0). Damian Cephas had 23 points and Quoc Huynh 14 for Escondido (5-6, 0-2).

Metro Conference
Chula Vista 85, Bonita Vista 80--The Spartans’ Jerome Green scored a county season-high 47 points, including seven three-pointers. Only five players scored for Chula Vista (9-6, 2-0), but three were in double figures--Green, Alberto Marzan (15) and Andy Duran (12). Sweetwater 66, Southwest 62--Sweetwater (5-10, 3-0) had to rely on some nifty defense from a freshman: Richard Adams, a 6-foot-4 guard, blocked three shots. Teammate Tom Keough provided the offense with 16 points. Keough also pulled down 11 rebounds as did Southwest’s Leo Vargas. Southwest’s Tony Diaz led all scorers with 18.
Madison Madhouse Cage Classic
University City 78, Madison 77--The tournament lived up to its name when Madison lost to University City on a disputed call.
The Warhawks (8-7) built a 48-39 halftime lead. However, University City (6-5) slowed down the home team in the second half and went ahead, 78-77, on a basket by Mike Andrus with 10 seconds left.
Madison’s Jason Cordell was fouled with four seconds to play. The call was first ruled a two-shot foul, but after a heated discussion, was changed to a one-and-one, and Cordell missed the front end.
UC’s Barry Waits led all scorers with 26 points, with Chris Williams chipping in 17. Four of five Madison starters were in double figures, led by Donnie Collins with 21 and Matt Baker with 20.

Nonleague
Lincoln 60, Morse 42--Lincoln, in what Coach Ron Loneski called his team’s best defensive effort, held Morse to two points in the first quarter. In a wildly emotional and physical game in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Mesa College, No. 8 Morse could not recovered from the 11-point deficit it carried into the second quarter, though it did pull to within four, 22-18, late in the same quarter.
Joe Evans, however, came right back with a three-pointer for Lincoln. Evans finished with 16 points and teammate Berry Randle added 18, mostly from underneath. For Morse, Edmond Jackson finished with 11, and Edwin Charles added 10.
Kearny 54, San Diego 45--In the fourth quarter, where San Diego outscored fifth-ranked Kearny, 9-1, the Cavers stood in a zone the last two minutes and simply ran out the clock.
“It was strange,” Kearny Coach Bill Peterson said. “They just stood there. They weren’t trying to win.”
San Diego was coming off a two week layoff. Its last game was against Kearny in the Sweetwater tournament, and the Cavers lost that one, 70-43.
Damion Victor led the Komets (14-1) with 17 points. Marcos Soto scored 16 points for San Diego.
Granite Hills 58, El Cajon Valley 55--Granite Hills’ Troy Meier stole a pass with two seconds left as El Cajon Valley (2-8) was attempting to set up a final three-point shot. Mark Kluge led the Eagles (7-5) with 12 points. Bill Wade had nine points and nine rebounds. Mike Harris made five three-pointers and finished with 29 points for the Braves.
Santana 50, Mt. Miguel 43--Santana did it with defense, not allowing any Mt. Miguel player to score in double figures. Doug Schultz led the Sultans (3-8) with 16 points.
Monte Vista 90, El Capitan 50--No. 3 Monte Vista (13-1) stayed in its power-play mode and overpowered host El Capitan (7-8), taking a 22-point halftime lead. Monte Vista’s Aaron Elliott led all scorers with 21 points, and Marty Ellis added 19.

Mira Mesa 54, Mission Bay 48--Ryan Cunningham connected on nine of 10 free throws, scored nine of Mira Mesa’s 14 fourth-quarter points and finished with 29. Mission Bay, which managed only 13 points in the first half, increased its tempo in the final two quarters. Chris Smith, who finished with 14 points for Mission Bay, was seven of 10 from the field. Point Loma 45, Oceanside 34--Despite Nyka Burnside’s 20 points, No. 5 Point Loma had little problem with Oceanside. Lisa Griego (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Tinyetta Hunter (12, 11) led the Pointers.
