O.C. PLATFORM : Bill Lacks Teeth

The City Council decided not to go along with the ordinance because it doesn’t have any teeth. It’s not being enforced in Dana Point or Santa Ana. Also, I found that when you compare what’s going on in our most crowded streets, with an average dwelling size of 650 livable square feet, to the Santa Ana ordinance, the last census accounts for roughly 600 people on a three-block street in San Clemente. The Santa Ana ordinance would allow 1,765 people in the same area. A new ordinance wouldn’t do what it’s supposed to do.

The city is going to be implementing a program in which we’ll be sending out public information about code enforcement so that people know what kinds of things we’re going to enforce--such as substandard housing, nuisance code violations and making inspections on complaints. We will also be setting aside affordable housing funds for a city housing rehab program.
