HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Notre Dame Nips Crespi on Late Score by Dongo
Francisco Dongo’s goal with two minutes to play lifted Notre Dame High to a 4-3 win over Crespi in a Mission League soccer match Saturday at Notre Dame.
Erik Bustamonte’s second goal tied the score for Notre Dame (6-2-2, 5-1 in league play) with five minutes left.
John Arroyo scored Notre Dame’s first goal on a penalty kick three minutes into the contest, but Crespi scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to take a 3-2 lead.
In others boys’ soccer matches:
Chaminade 2, Bishop Montgomery 0--Darren Johnson and Jimmy Babbidge scored for visiting Chaminade (8-7-3, 4-3) in a Mission League match. Chris Brown assisted on both goals.
St. Paul 1, Alemany 0--Mike Reyes had a goal called back as host Alemany (6-5, 3-3) dropped a Mission League match.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Alemany 4, St. Paul 0--Four players scored as the Indians (14-4-2, 5-0-1) dominated play in a Mission League match at St. Paul.
Valerie Goralski scored off an assist by Natalie Guiboa and Maureen O’Hare added a goal by hooking a corner kick into the net to give Alemany a 2-0 halftime lead. Sandy Bennett and Amy Sutton scored unassisted goals in the second half.
Freshman goalie Michelle Aasen had to stop just one shot to record her 13th shutout and help the Indians remain tied with Bishop Montgomery for first place in the Mission League standings.
Notre Dame 0, Louisville 0 (2 OTs)--Goalkeeper Jennifer Curiel of Notre Dame (1-12-2, 1-4-2) made 12 saves and goalkeeper Ashley Wire of Louisville (9-4-4, 3-3-1) made six saves in the Mission League match at Louisville.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
St. Paul 69, Alemany 54--Senior guard Brandon Ertle scored 24 of his game-high 27 points on eight three-point baskets in a Mission League game at Alemany. Matt Lenzen added 18 points for the Swordsmen (13-5, 4-3).
Chris Bello led Alemany (3-4 in league play) with 16 points, including four three-point shots. Richard Dice added 14 points.
Campbell Hall 59, Bel-Air Prep 54--Austin McKellar made a steal for host Campbell Hall (10-6, 4-2) with 13 seconds left, then hit four consecutive free throws as the Vikings held off Bel-Air Prep in a Delphic League game.
Bel-Air Prep (1-4 in league play) trailed, 55-54, when McKellar made his steal. He was fouled intentionally, hit a pair of free throws, then was fouled again after Campbell Hall’s inbound pass.
He then nailed two more shots from the foul line to ice the win.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Providence 33, Yeshiva 17--Freshman center Becky Martin scored 11 points and junior point guard Erica Mutton added nine to lead host Providence (4-8, 2-2) in a Liberty League game.
L.A. Lutheran 48, First Lutheran 45--Carrie Schaumann scored a game-high 18 points for L. A. Lutheran (12-2, 7-1) in a Heritage League game.
Hollie Roepke added 10 points and had 10 rebounds and Deonna Olson scored 14 points, 10 in the first quarter.
First Lutheran is 2-5 in league play.
WRESTLING
Harvard-Westlake invitational--Harvard-Westlake’s Jamin Seid (145 pounds) and Josh Minuto (heavyweight) recorded victories as the host Wolverines finished first among 15 teams.
Seid (25-5) defeated John Tuan of Faith Baptist, 6-4. Minuto is 23-4.
Harvard-Westlake finished with 157 points, followed by Ayala (147 1/2).
