Fascination With Serial Killers

I just read the article by Parker in which he alleges that we are transfixed by serial killers. I disagree. To me it seems like another article by a writer who assumes that he knows what the public is talking about based on his own thoughts. The news media do this all the time, but that doesn’t make it true. It’s called making news rather than reporting it.

In my opinion the real problem is that people deny the fact that many deranged individuals are born into society and should be “put to sleep” if they murder or rape just as the deranged animal that attacks us is “eliminated.”

I don’t need to understand why a killer kills; I need to understand why this society threatens capital punishment but is loath to implement it, because I believe that even a deranged person would think twice before murdering or raping if he/she were absolutely certain that death would be the guaranteed consequence (punishment).
